pRICE: $3495 INCLUDING ROUND TRIP AIR FROM LOS ANGELES
Travel
with Eleanor Burns on this amazing journey to the batik capital of the world -
Bali, Indonesia. Deb Roberts' tours and World of Quilts Travel has prepared an incredible and unique vacation experience where
one will be inspired by the breathtaking beauty of the island while enjoying a
first hand experience for batiking 'Bali Style'. Avoiding the more common
areas where other tours go, Eleanor's Bali tour will provide a glimpse of the
'real' Bali and includes a special visit to the historic North Shore.
Fabric manufacture has been an Indonesian tradition for centuries, and Bali is a
hub of fabric printing and shopping opportunities. As an added bonus, our
guide is knowledgeable in all facets of Bali's arts and textile culture to lead
us on every step of our journey around the island. It is also our pleasure
to offer an exceptional opportunity to visit the Hoffman
of California Batik factory; here you will learn how batiks are made 'Hoffman
Style' and come away with a whole new appreciation for the skill behind creating
these incredible prints. Come along, make your own batik fabrics,
enjoy fabric shopping where batiks average $2.00 a meter and enjoy the colors,
beauty and inspiration that Bali has to offer.
No
matter where you live, you are welcome to join Eleanor's tour. We have
welcomed guests from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, France and the
Netherlands on our tours, you may join us from anywhere, please email for

ITINERARY
Day 1 - September 18, 2012. We
will depart Los Angeles International Airport to Denpasar, Bali, Tuesday morning at 02:00
(AM) on Cathay Pacific Airlines.
Relax and enjoy our overnight flight to Hong
Kong. Changing planes in Hong Kong, we arrive in Bali on Wednesday
afternoon. Three meals will be served on our overnight journey. D,
B, L, S.
September 19:
Upon our arrival in Bali, once you have proceeded through customs, we will
be met at the airport by our coach and guide for transfer to our incredible Ubud hotel. This
evening we will meet our guide again at a special welcome dinner. Our guide has been especially selected for our
group based upon his expertise on Balinese culture, art & textile history
and industry. L, D
September 20: After enjoying a full breakfast at
the hotel, we will gather together and depart on a tour to the town of Tohpati
and it's Batik Factory. Here we will see Batik dyers, weavers and painters and
stop for a lecture and demonstration to learn how Batik is made.
Following lunch prepared just for us at a local restaurant we will visit the
famous art villages of Celuk where we will spend time perusing silver
manufacturer storehouses, especially interesting for those who love those silver
beads to use as embellishments.
After our return to Ubud, the remainder of the day and evening are free. B, L
September 21: A
special time awaits as today we will spend with Balinese Royalty.
Dedicated to the preservation of the age-old textile art of Batik and the
Balinese cultural traditions, our host today, is a Balinese Prince.
He has prepared a workshop for us that will include the preparation of
Indigo and Morinda dye vats and the opportunity to create our own
wax resist and hand dyed batik fabrics. Following lunch, we will
stop for some shopping at the Denpasar Market area. Here you
are in for some fun as an entire street is dedicated to the sale of
fabrics and Balinese style batiks can be purchased for $2.15* a
meter. After we return to the hotel, the remainder of the day is
free. B, L
September 22: After
an incredible breakfast, we will go to the village of Tenganan, known as
the original Bali village. This
area is very rustic and traditional to the Balinese culture. It is
here they are famous for weaving the double Ikat. After lunch at an
oceanside hotel we will
return to Ubud. B, L
September 23: Today we
transfer to our oceanside hotel in Nusa Dua. On our way we will have a
wonderful opportunity to visit a hidden batik facility in Bali. Here,
you will tour the facility and make your own contemporary batik piece of
fabric. Following lunch, we will check into our new hotel. B,
L.
September 24: After
breakfast this morning we will visit the Museum Le Mayeur, former home of
the impressionist painter Adrien Jean
Le Mayeur de Merpes and the nearby Ni Polok Art Shop. Following
lunch, we will visit the art market at Kuta and see an entire different
side of Bali - very cosmopolitan. Once we are dropped at our hotel,
the remainder of the day is free. B, L.
September 25: Today, we will visit one of the most
photographed and beautiful places in all of Bali, the island, Tahan Lot
Temple which was built in the 13th century on a rock just approximately
200 meters off shore. We will also visit the Mengwi Temple and following
lunch we will return to Nusa Dua. The rest of the afternoon is free
to do as you desire, you may wish to choose an afternoon/evening of
leisure and pampering. Should you choose this option, we will
arrange transportation to Bali Collection where you will be treated to a
special Balinese tea and 2 hours of pampering at one of their spas.
You may also wish to consider booking a reservation at one of the cultural
dance performances in the area. B
September 26: This
morning we will visit a well known contemporary batik facility.
This will be a full morning with much of the time spent outdoors where the
fabrics are printed, dyed and dried. Our hosts hold nothing
back in showing us the age old processes necessary to make the batiks from
this company what they are best known for, incomparable beauty. Not one machine is
used in the process - it is all hand done. Not only will you walk
away with a different appreciation for batiks, but when you learn more
about little known company traditions and their generosity toward the
people of Bali, you will walk away having more appreciation for this company as well as their fabrics. Before heading back to our hotel, we
will have lunch at a lovely ocean-side restaurant. B, L
September 27: Today is a day
of leisure, and our last opportunity to run into town to pick up those
last minute gifts and surely more batiks!!! Tonight we will
gather for a farewell oceanside Balinese style banquet together. B, D
September 28: Sadly all good things
must come to an end and today we will find ourselves departing Bali
We will each
leave with a deeper understanding of Indonesian culture and textile
knowledge....it may also be that we will be leaving with many incredible
memories and fabrics which will go together into a beautiful quilt - Bali
style. You will enjoy an early dinner on our flight from Bali to
Hong Kong, followed by two additional meals on our overnight trans-Pacific
flight from Hong Kong to Los Angeles, arriving on September 28, 2012
