with Pam Hewitt, owner of The Quilt Barn quilt shop in Washington, and World of Quilts Travel owner, Deb Roberts, on this journey to
Bali, Indonesia. We have prepared an incredible vacation experience where
one will be inspired by the breathtaking beauty of the island while enjoying a
first hand experience for batiking 'Bali Style'. Fabric manufacture has
been an Indonesian tradition for centuries, and Bali is a hub of fabric printing
and shopping opportunities. As an added bonus, our guide is knowledgeable
in all facets of Bali's arts and textile culture to lead us on every step of our
journey around the island. It is also our pleasure to offer an exclusive
(to Deb Roberts Tours') opportunity to visit the Hoffman of California Batik
factory. Come along, make your own batik fabrics, enjoy fabric shopping
where batiks average $1.75 a meter and enjoy the colors, beauty and inspiration
that Bali has to offer.

ITINERARY
Day 1 - September 13, 2011. We
will depart Vancouver Airport to Denpasar, Bali, Tuesday morning at 02:00
(AM) on Cathay Pacific Airlines.
Relax and enjoy our overnight flight to Hong
Kong. Changing planes in Hong Kong, we arrive in Bali on Wednesday
afternoon. Three meals will be served on our overnight journey. D,
B, L.
September 14:
Upon our arrival in Bali, once you have proceeded through customs, we
will be met at the airport by our coach and guide for transfer to our
hotel - the incredible 5 star,
Nusa Dua Beach Resort and Spa. This
evening we will meet our guide at a special welcome dinner and orientation
to our time in Bali. Our guide has been especially selected for our
group based upon his expertise on Balinese culture, art & textile history
and industry. L, D
September 15: After enjoying a full breakfast at
the hotel, we will gather together and depart on a tour to the town of Tohpati
and it's Batik Factory. Here we will see Batik dyers, weavers and painters and
stop for a lecture and demonstration to learn how Batik is made.
Following lunch prepared just for us at a local restaurant we will visit the
famous art villages of Celuk where we will spend time perusing the many silver
manufacturer storehouses, especially interesting for those who love those silver
beads to use as embellishments.
The remainder of the day and evening are free. B, L
September 16: A
special time awaits as today we will spend with Balinese Royalty.
Dedicated to the preservation of the age-old textile art of Batik and the
Balinese cultural traditions, our host today, is a Balinese Prince.
He has prepared a workshop for us that will include the preparation of
Indigo and Morinda dye vats and the opportunity to create our own
wax resist and hand dyed batik fabrics. Following lunch, we will
stop for some shopping at the Denpasar Market area. Here you
are in for some fun as an entire street is dedicated to the sale of
fabrics and Balinese style batiks can be purchased for $1.75 a
meter. After we return to the hotel, the remainder of the day is
free. B, L
September 17: Today is a free
day. You may choose to relax on the beach at our luxury resort,
spend time in the spa, head back to Denpasar for more shopping, or do it
all. B
September 18: After
breakfast this morning we will transfer to Bali's north shore where a real
treat awaits. Here, Penyabangan Village Beach is
breathtakingly beautiful and one of those places that not every tourist
visits. Pam has made it possible for the group to visit a pearl
farm, where oysters are harvested and exquisite pearl jewelry is made.
Our hotel for the night is the ocean-front
Puri-Bagus Hotel in Lovina,
this location will be perfect for a spectacular sunset view. B, L.
September 19: This morning we will
spend some leisurely time in the area before heading to Ubud, which is in
central Bali and the more tropical area. We may choose to stop at markets
along the way, making our way into Ubud just after lunch. Our hotel,
the Komaneka Bisma is a spectacular tropical resort; once you check into
your room, you may just decide to wander the tropical grounds or take in the luxury services offered for
the remainder of the evening. B, L
September 20: After
an incredible breakfast, we will go to the village of Tenganan. This
area is very rustic and traditional to the Balinese culture. It is
here they are famous for weaving the double Ikat. We will also be
stopping at a traditional outdoor food market and after lunch we will
return to Ubud where you may choose to stay in town to shop or be dropped
at the hotel. If you stay in town, arrangements will be made to pick
you up at a later time. B, L
September 21: This
morning we will visit the Hoffman Batik Factory. Our group has
an exclusive invitation to the factory and here, we will witness the
amazing work at the Hoffman facility. The Hoffman's do not routinely open
up the factory to group visits, so we are in for a unique treat.
This will be a full morning with much of the time spent outdoors where the
fabrics are printed, dyed and dried. Our hosts hold nothing
back in showing us the age old processes necessary to make a Hoffman Batik
what it is best known for, incomparable beauty. Not one machine is
used in the process - it is all hand done. Not only will you walk
away with a different appreciation for batiks, but when you learn more
about little known Hoffman traditions and their generosity toward the
people of Bali, you will walk away having more appreciation for their
company as well as their fabrics. Before heading back to our hotel, we
will have lunch at a lovely ocean-side restaurant. B, L
September 22:
Following breakfast, we will head to the coast and Bali's most
photographed spot, the Tanah Lot Temple. Here locals and tourists
both enjoy the scenic vistas and local market. After lunch we
will return to Ubud for the remainder of the day. B
September 23: Today is a day
of leisure, and our last opportunity to run into town to pick up those
last minute gifts and surely more Batiks!!! Tonight we will
gather for a farewell dinner and cultural dance show. B, D
September 24: Sadly all good things
must come to an end and today we will find ourselves departing Bali, each
with a deeper understanding of Indonesian culture and textile
knowledge....it may also be that we will be leaving with many incredible
memories and fabrics which will go together into a beautiful quilt - Bali
style. You will enjoy an early dinner on our flight from Bali to
Hong Kong, followed by two additional meals on our overnight trans-Pacific
flight from Hong Kong to Vancouver,
arriving on September 25. B, L, L, D,
